Lois Lane #11 ★★★½

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I’m a fan of Greg Rucka and Mike Perkins, and I loved how this book started out, but this issue just left me with a ‘so what?’ The title is Lois Lane, but this is a Renee Montoya Question book in practice, and the initial look at journalism feels completely derailed to deliver a very timey-wimey multiversal love story, whose continuity completely escapes me. It may end up being properly explained next issue, but Lois playing on a multiversal plane rather than a journalistic one makes me feel like I’ve wasted quite a lot of time, despite this series’ good points.

For all of Perkins’ strengths here it felt as though there were storytelling and likeness issues which added unnecessarily to the confusion. Also with some occasional imprecise colouring by Andy Troy I couldn’t always distinguish between Lois and Renee, which added to the disengagement. Ultimately I shouldn’t need to know old Question continuity to understand a Lois book, and even Lois’ involvement in the denouement this issue makes no sense.
