Chicha Lewisham is located on the same hill I used to live on, which is hard to get my head around but it’s superb news for the area. They’re a shining beacon of food excellence in southeast London and during lockdown we fell in love with them. We’re still not going back indoors to any restaurants, even those who have terraces (they delightfully do), but their takeaway service is really sharp, well timed and doesn’t in any way cut corners on quality. To be honest their mango margaritas alone are worth racing to this Peruvian restaurant for.
The Peruvian fried chicken was absolutely to die for and the portion was huge. Their ceviche could have done with a little more lime juice but served with giant corn kernels, red onions and chillis it was still the best I’ve had in years. I absolutely loved the fried yuca too (deep fried cassava chips) – so tasty and a perfect match for the chicken. We had their lobster chimichurri for my birthday in May and keep getting blown away by food I’d normally expect to have to go to Shoreditch or Hoxton to find. With food and service like this (they are lovely) we’ll be back quite often!
